Google Business Profile management

The map pack is where a small trade business gets found first. For the first six months it matters more than the website. We set the profile up correctly, then keep it active so Google keeps showing it.

The three map results under a local search. Distance, reviews, categories, and activity decide who is in them.

Ten things most trade profiles get wrong

We go through every one on the first call. If you already have a profile, we fix it in place so you keep your reviews.

  1. Service-area business, with the address hidden and the service area set to the towns you actually drive to.
  2. Name, phone, and website exactly as they appear on the site, character for character.
  3. Primary category for the trade ("HVAC contractor", "Plumber", "Electrician") plus two to four secondary categories.
  4. Verification done, usually a video showing the truck, the tools, and the business name on something.
  5. Description, up to 750 characters: owner-operated, the services, the towns, the hours.
  6. Every service listed with a one-line description under the matching category.
  7. Hours set to when you answer the phone, not when you do visits. Closed days marked.
  8. Logo and at least ten real photos: you, the truck, work in progress, finished jobs.
  9. Q&A seeded with the three or four questions customers ask on the first call. Owners are allowed to post them.
  10. Duplicates at an old address merged or closed, so your reviews are not split.

Every month

Keeping it active

Google treats a profile that has not changed in six months the way a homeowner treats a shop with no truck in the driveway.

Posts

Reviews
A review request text goes to the customer after each job, automatically. Every new review gets a reply drafted within a week; you approve, we post. Reviews with a reply read as a business that is paying attention.
Baseline
Call, direction, and website-click counts screenshot on launch day so the monthly report shows movement, not just totals.

What moves the ranking

In rough order

Distance

How far the searcher is from your service area. You cannot change it, which is why the service area has to be set to the towns you really cover.

Reviews

Count, recency, and whether they say anything. A review that mentions "furnace" and the town name does more than five stars alone.

Categories and services

The primary category decides which searches you are eligible for. The services list and description decide which of those you match.

Consistency and activity

The same name, phone, and site on every directory, and a profile that changes: new photos, posts, answered questions, replied reviews.

Walkthrough

How we manage the profile, week by week

A Google Business Profile is not set-and-forget. Google rewards listings that look active and punishes ones that look abandoned. This is the routine.

  1. 1
    Week 1: ownership and verification

We make sure the listing is owned by your Google account, not an old marketing company's, and that you are the primary owner. If the listing is unverified or suspended, we handle the video or postcard verification with you. If there is a duplicate, we merge it so reviews are not split.

  2. 2
Week 1: the information Google ranks on

Business name exactly as it is on your license and your truck. Primary category chosen for the search you want to win. Hours that are true, including after-hours if you really answer. Service area set to the towns you drive to, not a 100-mile circle. A description written for a homeowner, not for Google.

  3. 3
Week 2: services, products, and photos

Every service listed with a one-line description and, where you are willing, a starting price. A logo, a cover photo of the truck or the owner, and at least ten job photos with real captions. Photos are the most under-used ranking signal on trade listings.

  4. 4
    Every week: reviews and replies

The review request goes out after each completed job. Every new review gets a reply within a day; we draft it, you approve it with one tap. Negative reviews get a calm, specific reply, which prospects read more carefully than the five-star ones.

  5. 5
Every two weeks: a post and a check

A short Google post with a job photo and a sentence. We also check for suggested edits, bogus reviews, and any sign of a suspension, because those are the things that quietly take a listing out of the map pack.

Questions

Business Profile, answered

I already have a profile. Do I start over?

No. Starting over loses your reviews. We fix the existing one: categories, services, hours, description, photos, and any duplicate listing that is splitting your reviews.

Can I hide my home address?

Yes. A service-area business shows the towns you serve instead of an address. Most owner-operated trades should be set up this way.

Who replies to my reviews?

We draft every reply within a week and send it to you. You approve or change it, and it goes up. Nothing is posted in your name without you seeing it.

Should I put a call-tracking number on the profile?

No. It breaks the name-and-phone match with your site and the directories, and listings have dropped over it. The profile's own call button already counts calls.

My listing got suspended. Can you fix it?

Usually, yes. Most suspensions on trade listings come from a name that includes keywords, a service area set too wide, or an address that is a PO box or a virtual office. We correct the cause and file the reinstatement with the documentation Google asks for. It typically takes one to three weeks.

Can I just do this myself?

You can, and the first setup is not hard. What owners do not keep up with is the weekly part: replies, posts, photo uploads, and watching for suspensions, during the weeks they are busiest. That is the part we take off your plate.

Will you respond to reviews in my voice?

We draft; you approve. The replies use your name and sound like you because we wrote the first few with you on the intake call. You can edit or skip any reply before it posts.
